About the breed

Suzan's "Commitment to Excellence" is what has made Desert Legend Dobermans the largest breeder of Doberman Pinschers in North America.

Conformation: Over 25 years of breeding experience has given Suzan a unique talent of recognizing and breeding for superior conformation. You cannot just breed any two Doberman Pinschers and expect to have excellent conformation.

Conformation is the way the dogs are put together; neck, hips, shoulders, etc.
This is critical for healthy dogs as they mature. Proper hip and shoulder position is needed to reduce chances of joint and hip problems on older dogs. You don't want to spend a fortune on veterinarian bills for an unhealthy dog. It is important to have good conformation, especially on large breed dogs.

Food: Over the years we have tried different dog foods. We have found that Nutro Natural Choice puppy and adult foods to be the best for these large breed dogs.
This is one of the most expensive commercial dog foods on the market, but the price
is not important, the quality is important.

Exercise: The puppies have large pens to exercise in when indoors and there are
large grass fields for exercise when we put them outside. They start going outside
at about 5 ½ weeks old for exposure to sunshine and the world. They are under constant supervision to prevent fear from being alone at the young age. Notes are taken about their personalities traits and they are marked to fulfill the customer requests.

Raised with love: We are with the mothers through the entire labor and birth process. Suzan will make sure that every puppy is healthy from the very first
breath. She also watches over mother to be certain that she does not have complications when giving birth. Every puppy's life is important as well as the mother's health and well being. There is someone with the baby puppies 24 hours per day for the first 3-4 days; this is the most vulnerable time for newborn puppies.

As the puppies grow there will be someone that will sit in the pen with the puppies and play with them and let the puppies crawl all over them; this is done by Suzan
or our caretaker. This is part of the socialization process so they get used to people. We will have friends come over and sit with puppies to get them used to different people.

All puppies get parasites (worms), Suzan starts worming the puppies at 2 weeks
old so the puppies get the nutrition not the parasites. Different chemicals are used to be certain that there are no parasites starting in puppies. Puppy shots are given at 6 and 8 weeks.

Puppies are not sent to their new homes until they are 8 -9 weeks old because
they are not ready for new homes until then. There is tremendous mental development from 7 to 9 weeks.

As you can see everything is done for the dogs and puppies. Happy dogs make happy puppies. There are no shortcuts taken here, on food or care for your new puppy, we want your new puppy to exceed your expectations. Suzan's "Commitment to Excellence" is to have the most beautiful and perfect breeding
dogs and to provide to you the most beautiful and perfect puppy for your family.
